Where I’ve Been and Where I’m Going
I thought I was out. After a few big moves happened to my career and a few small knocks happened to my blog, I figured it was time to move on. After all, I pondered, surely this local beer bonanza couldn’t last much longer, right? Well, that was 2015, and boy was I wrong! Four years have passed, and Connecticut beer has done nothing but gather more steam, increasing in awareness, recognition, and quality. Due to this, with every passing year I’ve grown more and more remiss at the fact that I let my blog slide. So, it is with great joy that I announce the re-launch of Malted Musings! To get things kickstarted, over the next few weeks I’m going to cover a couple basic things — a re-introduction, if you will. The first thing I want to speak on quick is the state of my blog. In other words, what’s MM all about and where am I going with all this?
Let’s get this out of the way first: my humble MM (as said above) has been mothballed for around four years. Not the result of any hidden drama, this was a classic case of “life getting in the way;” ultimately, a person really does only have so many hours in the day! That being said, I never stopped being a fan of beer & beverage; indeed; I’ve kept up brewery visits up and down the east coast, got acquainted with new styles and varieties (including cider), and even started bartending professionally here and there. In fact, it was recently, while I was behind the bar, talking to a few reps and patrons that I was really encouraged to get back to blogging. The message (shared by several people) was. “Make the time, CT can never have enough quality beer coverage.” I took this advice to heart and began blowing the dust off my site.
So what’s new, and what can you expect from me? If you read Malted Musings v.1, you can already see that I’ve upgraded the platform for my relaunch. On this sleeker site, I plan to put out at least one post a week (or like four posts a month). As you can tell from my “CT Beer Database” tab up top, my primary focus is going to be giving you all pictures and insights into as many CT breweries as I can. What is the tasting/brewing space like? What is the seating and the vibe? What sorts of beers / drinks are made? What is some fun trivia about the brewery you can use to impress your friends? All these are questions I hope to address in some succinct, fun to read snapshots. Along with that I will continue checking into close regional breweries, giving you personal interviews & insights from people in the biz, and updating you all about some of the local fests, goings-on, and rumors in the CT beer world.
So there you have it; I’m back and ready to give you a personal look behind the curtain of some of you favorite brands and offer up general musings about all things malted. Be sure you follow me on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram to keep up-to-date. Tune in next week as I discuss the “State of CT Beer,” in other words, what’s changed in the past few years and what makes the CT beer scene so special. Until then I’ll see you where the pints live. Cheers!
